The Pinch Hitter 1925
Joel Parker is sent to college by his crabby farmer father only because it was his mother's dying wish that he get an education. At college, he's immediately pegged as a chump and is constantly victimized by the other students, headed by Jimmie Slater. Only Abbie Nettleton, who works at the campus bakery, has any sympathy for him.
The Love Gamble 1925
Peggy Mason joins her boyfriend Douglas Wyman at a secluded cabin. When he confesses his love and the fact he is still a married man Peggy is distraught and flees the cabin. But meanwhile Douglas' wife is murdered and when the police arrest him he finds he can't provide an alibi without tarnishing Peggy's reputation.

The viewing pleasure comes not from the run-of-the-mill gags and storyline but from seeing a master wring every ounce of comedy from his ungainly outfit.
