Filme „Oskaro“ nominantė Diana Lane vaidina Adrienne Willis, moterį, kurios gyvenimas susipainiojęs ir jį apibūdinti galima vienu žodžiu – „chaosas“. Negalinti susigaudyti savo jausmuose žavi moteris atvyksta į mažą pajūrio miestelį Rodantę Šiaurės Karolinoje, tikėdamasi praleisti tik sau skirtą savaitgalį pas bičiulius. Šioje ramybės oazėje ji tikisi nusiraminti ir rasti būdus gyventi toliau – konfliktų ir nesusipratimų aplink ją susikaupė tiek daugiau, kad tos kelios dienos Adrienne atrodo kaip vienintelis išsigelbėjimas, kaip vienintelė galimybė pabėgti nuo nepastovaus ir nepatikimo vyro, kuris reikalauja grįžti namo, nuo paauglės dukters, kuri priešinasi ir atmeta bet kokius mamos žodžius, kuri nuolat ginčijasi ir priekaištauja. Beveik tuo pačiu metu, kai Rodantę pasiekia Adrienne, visos žinių tarnybos informuoja apie artėjančią audrą. Tokiu nepalankiu metu į miestelį atvyksta ir daktaras Paulas Flanneris.

Dick Loudon and his wife Joanna decide to leave life in New York City and buy a little inn in Vermont. Dick is a how-to book writer, who eventually becomes a local TV celebrity as host of "Vermont Today." George Utley is the handyman at the inn and Leslie Vanderkellen is the maid, with ambitions of being an Olympic Ski champion; she is later replaced by her cousin Stephanie, an heiress who hates her job. Her boyfriend is Dick's yuppie TV producer, Michael Harris. There are many other quirky characters in this fictional little town, including Dick's neighbors Larry, Darryl, and Darryl...three brothers who buy the Minuteman Cafe from Kirk Devane. Besides sharing a name, Darryl and Darryl never speak.
