Breakthroughs don’t come easy. Especially for up-and-coming actress Anna. Rejected from her most recent audition, Anna returns home to find that her dad has already made other plans for her life. Her last chance: playing the victim in training exercises for the local fire department. Whether she is rescued from car wrecks or placed under toppled trees, Anna gives it everything she’s got, because a job at the local bank seems utterly unthinkable.

The historical background to the story is the transfer of 269 executed women to the Berlin Anatomy Department in the years 1939-1945. The corpses were misused for experimental purposes.

1929: Marie Lehning, a farm worker from Warmsdorf on the Baltic Sea, falls in love with the fisherman's son Mingo. Both complete an apprenticeship in Lübeck. Marie wants to become a seamstress, Mingo a carpenter. After their first night of love, they swear eternal fidelity. But Marie has to return to the village, her mother is ill and her siblings are unprovided for. She starts working as a maid on a farm. "Snowblind" is set in the black forest in the ice cold winter of 1946. Peter, a 16-year old, blind boy is trying to get out of Germany together with his father Heiner – a former SS officer. They carry the fatally wounded soldier Karl, who promised to guide them across the border to Switzerland. By the time they reach his families remote farm house, Karl has died and Peter and Heiner hope for Karls father to fulfill his sons promise. A snow storm forces them to stay at the farm house, causing highly sensible dynamics between the contradicting characters - sparking a chain of fateful events.

Stockinger is portrayed as a clumsy, almost Inspector Clouseau-like character, driving a clapped-out 1973 VW Variant, but single-minded when following up clues.
