"Without Words" is a film about a mystery. Martine has lost her voice, ans she has been silent for 11 months. She and her sister Erika are trying to understand why, and Martine is desperately trying to get her voice back. Will her voice change if they succeed? Will Martine?
The film is a portrait of a generation of women who crawled out of the shadow of the punk movement in the late seventies, because they also wanted to play like men and at the same time wanted to be seen and heard. Women who did not want to submit to a male-dominated music industry and who used the 80s generation's liberation of the individual and sexuality to rebel against authority and societal norms. Women – Lise Cabble, Mette Soele Zachau Mathiesen, Lene Lykke Davidsen, Minna Grooss and the late Anne Vig Skoven – who, together with a number of other women in the years from 1975 to 1997, were first the punk/indie female band Clinic Q, which became pop/rock the band Miss B. Haven, which was successful far beyond Denmark's borders.
Cirkeline, Frederik and little brother are playing trains and travel around the world to America. Here they are met by unrest, police states and a black mouse who is a member of the Black Panthers. The mouse, who we never see, tells of racial hatred and persecution of black people. Little brother disappears in the big city, but Cirkeline and Frederik ally with some Indians to find him again. The soldiers open fire, also on Frederik and Cirkeline. Fortunately, it turns out that the soldiers are plastic toy soldiers that you can just push over, and the Indian chief is Ingolf. Fortunately, it was just a game.

Having seen a fashion show in Magasin du Nord, the lady of the house dreams of owning a dress from the store’s model salon. She entreats her husband, who sticks to his ‘no’. After a long and scary dream in which he is being chased by mannequins from the Model Salon because he does not want to give his wife a dress, he changes his mind.
