Gelukkig raakt David daar bevriend met Micawber, de ruige Mealy Potatoes en Agnes een mooie Perzische poes, met wie hij de nodige avonturen beleeft. David is een slimme durfal en het lukt hem om de plannen van zijn stiefvader meneer Murdstone, met zijn helpers Cheese Muenster de gevreesde aasgier en de sadistische rat meneer Grinsby, flink te dwarsbomen. Door meneer Murdstone en Grinsby op de hielen gezeten weet David uiteindelijk, samen met zijn vriendjes, de gevangenen te bevrijden uit de kaasfabriek. Deze familiefilm is gebaseerd op de wereldberoemde roman 'David Copperfield' van Charles Dickens.
