John Davidson, bij wie op 15-jarige leeftijd het syndroom van Tourette werd vastgesteld, worstelt zich tegen alle verwachtingen in door een moeilijke tienerjaren en de volwassenheid, waarbij hij inspiratie vindt in de vriendelijkheid van anderen om zijn ware doel in het leven te ontdekken.

Oppenheimer is uiteindelijk verantwoordelijk voor de uitvinding van de atoombom.
Eind jaren 80. Jordan Belfort is een aan drugs, drank en seks verslaafde effectenmakelaar, die door fraude multimiljonair wordt. De voormalige meubelhandelaar Danny Porush is hierbij zijn zakenpartner.
Francesc Boix is een Catalaanse fotograaf en een communistische militant die in de Spaanse Burgeroorlog heeft gevochten. In de Tweede Wereldoorlog wordt hij opgepakt en gevangen gezet in het concentratiekamp Mauthausen. Daar moet hij werken in het fotolaboratorium. Wat de nazi's echter niet weten, is dan Boix zich ten doel heeft gesteld zoveel mogelijk van de gruwelijke gebeurtenissen in het kamp te fotograferen.
Ze zijn een stuk bos aan het kappen als één van hen, Travis Walton, wordt ontvoerd door een UFO. Ze hebben grote moeite de autoriteiten van hun oprechtheid te overtuigen. Pas vijf dagen later wordt Travis weer gevonden; naakt en volledig in de war.
'Hacksaw Ridge' vertelt het waargebeurde verhaal over Desmond T. Doss. Desmond was een Amerikaanse legerdokter die zich op het slagveld van 1942 bevond, maar weigerde om te moorden en wapens te dragen.
