Hva foregår egentlig på en bondegård når bonden snur ryggen til? Otis er en festglad ku som liker å synge, danse og tulle med menneskene på gården. I motsetning til faren Ben, som er gårdens respekterte patriark, og det gammelkloke muldyret Miles, er Otis likeglad med å holde dyrenes menneskelige talenter hemmelige. Men da han plutselig blir nødt til å ta ansvar, må Otis finne lederen i seg selv.

De er fanget - innestengt bak piggtrådgjerder, i frykt for sine egne liv og med drømmer om et liv i frihet. Alle forsøk på å rømme blir brutalt slått ned og opprørslederen blir alltid straffet og satt i enecelle. Men dette er ikke noe vanlig fengsel...og dette er ikke noen vanlige fengselsfugler. Vi befinner oss på Nordre Tvilsheim Hønsegård (Tweedy´s Egg Farm) hvor den høna som ikke bidrar med egg til frokostbordet risikerer å ende opp som dagens hønsefrikassé. Men Inger (Ginger) og resten av hønseflokken er fast bestemt på å unnslippe før de blir ribbet og stekt. Tiden er i ferd med å renne ut. Den grådige eieren av gården, fru Tvilsheim (Mrs. Tweedy) finner en ny måte å skyte gullfuglen på: Ved å bruke hønene til hønsepai. Men nå, med hjelp fra "den ensomme rytter" Rocky, klekker Inger (Ginger) og de andre hønene en plan for hvordan de skal komme seg ut av hønsehuset.....FLUKTEN FRA HØNSEGÅRDEN er i gang.

Gjør deg klar for årets villeste eventyr i ville vesten! Den griske og ettersøkte kvegtjuven Alameda Slim vil kjøpe opp alle gårdene i landet. Inkludert gården Himmelkroken, som er belånt til over pipen. Her bor de sta kuene Maggie, Fru Caloway og Grace, den furtende geiten Jed og alle deres venner. En gjeng som ikke gir opp håpet om å få beholde gården de er oppvokst på. Planen er å fange Slim og kjøpe tilbake Himmelkroken med belønningen. Fra å leve et slaraffenliv på gården har de nå blitt dratt inn i en ellevill jakt for å sikre fremtiden.

En tidligere prests oppdagelse av mystiske kornsirkler på åkeren hans, blir startskuddet for en rekke bisarre hendelser der jorden blir truet av romvesener ...
