Som hovedtrener for The Titans ble Herman Boone, spilt av Denzel Washington, ansatt, mens det hvite lagets trener ble degradert til hans assistent. Mot alle odds, mens USA skaket under raseopptøyer, kjempet disse to mennene sammen med laget sitt mot datidens fordommer for å skape forståelse og toleranse i sine egne rekker og i lokalsamfunnet.
