On a Mediterranean shore, a Syrian father's decision to give his daughter a better life puts her in danger of losing it.

In Egypt forties and before the 14th of July revolution in 1952, a poor family lives in a prince's palace where the father works as a gardener. The family has two children Ali and Hassan. Ali grows up liking the prince's daughter who loves him too. Now grown ups, they realize how impossible this love story is. Joining the army, Ali fights in Palestine while the brother joins the police and is part of the King's guards. Ali gets back from Palestine and joins the secret military movement that will soon rule Egypt, The Free Officers. The revolution starts and the Free Officers are now in charge, putting Ali against his brother as a guard for the king and also against his lover, the prince's daughter as the revolution will confiscate all her family's wealth.

After the 1967 setback, Abu Ramzi is displaced from the Golan with his family, and he is tired in order to secure a livelihood and his wife who works in sewing helps him. As for the son Ramzi, he dreams of riches quickly and in the easiest way, which drives him to collide with his father, who dreams of a roof that shelter him through halal earnings.

In the 1940s, the policeman Imam moves to Cairo to work in an area devoted to prostitution. There he falls in love with the prostitute Nusse who works with the bully Jalal without knowing that she is practicing this profession. He is defended by an imam who beats an English soldier who tries to intercept her and assault her. He is tried and dismissed from service, then returns to live in the neighborhood and look for work, and becomes a pimp, a quarrel between him and Jalal al-Fatwa. Each trying to prove his strength and impose his power.

Amal marries the train driver Mahmoud, who treats her harshly.
