Even though Istedgade has changed a lot over the past few years, there are still traces from the times when the notorious street in Vesterbro was Copenhagen's own red light district. For the three people we meet here, the street is also their second home. 48-year-old Mette, 34-year-old Wesley and 26-year-old Danny share a drug addiction and a harsh upbringing in common. But they are also human beings with a story to tell, and in 'Gaden' we are for once told the stories from them directly, and over the course of two years. Their escape, the drugs and their unconventional community – with Istedgade as the rough background which ties their (life) stories together.

Sofia is a shy and introverted teenager who practice fencing in a small club of her city. She is experiencing a substantial fascination for Trine, the best fencer of her team, but she just doesn’t know what to do about it. When she learns that her idol has been selected to train in the prestigious club of Heidenhein, Sofia is devastated. She must now force her destiny in one evening if she doesn’t want to feel remorse.
