One of Many 2018
I was one of many. I was one of everyone. And many were me. Croation animator Petra Zlonoga, who charmed us with the wonderful Dota (LIFF 2017), has created another disarmingly elegant Animator. A soulful journey of self-discovery, with a graceful and elemental spirit of creation, her new film is a twinkling, cosmological study, teeming with life and delicacy.
Split Waltz 021_123 2019
In the film Split Waltz 021_123 we simultaneously follow three video performances held in the old city center of Split. By creating interactive situations within the established daily flows of the tourist city, the artist subjectively observes, as well as intervenes in the public space, at the same time commenting, opening and confronting different views on the public space.
Till the End of the Thread 2019
Former Yarn and Thread Factory Dalmatinka Sinj was one of the most successful textile companies in Yugoslavia. Since its establishment in 1951 to the beginning of the 90's it was the basis of economic life in the town of Sinj, Croatia. It also had a key role in the emancipation of women who made 80% of its workforce. Recorded in 2017 during the end of the bankruptcy proceedings and in 2018, when the factory was sold to a company that intends to change its function to a business center and venue for wedding receptions, the film represents an epitaph for the factory and its workers. Movements of cotton and thread in the ruins of the famous factory, the remnants of machines and empty halls are interwoven with scenes from the experimental film Threads, filmed in the golden days of Dalmatinka.
Currents 2019
Plants such as Dracaena, Ficus, and Philodendron were integral parts of the socialist modernist architecture in the seventies and eighties. Today, they remain strong visual reminders of the socialist state. In "Currents", the movement of plants, the only remaining residents of the building, may be read as a part of a wider context, the change of currents. One paradigm of understanding space is being replaced with another one, the concept of the welfare state, and its undertakings are treated with contempt. Absurdity is a feature of this situation, in which that which was once of great importance becomes completely irrelevant.
Take Back Benčić 1970
Take Back Benčić is an experimental film made in collaboration with 67 child performers from Rijeka, Croatia. Part documentary, part fiction, the film follows the activities and reflections of the children during a 6 week period when they occupied the H and T buildings of the former worker managed Rikard Benčić factory in Rijeka. Through their words and gestures they re-imagine the politics, histories, and future of the site, and the relationship between work, art and play.
Potatoes, Potatoes 2001
The production of cultural meaning, and of value, takes on a number of associations in "Krumpira Krumpira" ("Potatoes, Potatoes"), from 2001. The film pictures the artist selling cakes - a substitute for the standard plebeian foodstuff, bread - in the middle of a deserted, snowy forest landscape.
Accidental Find 2019
A few cases of 8mm film stock and reversals have been found at Jakuševac, a car boot sale in Zagreb. The film was shot in the 1940s and some is in colour, which was quite rare for the time. Based on the motifs and quality, it seems there were multiple cameramen. Who are the people found on the footage made over the most dramatic years of the 20th century? Nobody at Jakuševac asks where their purchases come from, so the investigation began on the outlines of the scarce indications that the material provided...

Sector 2015
The video shows welders who have interrupted their strictly utilitarian work in order to perform a piece for welding machines composed by young Croatian composer Nenad Sinkauz. The video was shot in a shipyard in Mali Lošinj, Croatia, in the summer of 2014. It triggers associations with the idea of cooperation between artists and workers, which was once popularised by the communist party. This model was promoted in the 1960s not only within the former Eastern Bloc, but also in the UK by the Artist Placement Group (APG), among others.
Hills Village 21000 Split 2012
Hills Village 21000 Split is a documentary which in a Fellini style represents the inhabitants of an unusual neighbourhood. We encounter a dentist and writer, a tired ex-boxer who had a carrier in Germany, a hardcore punk band Pas Maters, whose charismatic front man and lead singer mysteriously disappeared, an old soccer supporter with the last name Hajduk, an ex-hooligan diligently studying in a night school and many others. A complex portrait of an unusual Split neighbourhood and its even more unusual inhabitants with Hajduk as their religion.
How Steel Was Tempered 2018
A father takes his son to an abandoned factory where he once worked. The building has long been reduced to a crumbling symbol of the new system. Nonetheless, the space will briefly be brought to life by recorded scenes of workers solidarity, inspiring a small gesture of defiance. That symbolic act will turn into a moment of catharsis and re-establish the relationship between the father and son.

The Market 2006
Market shoppers use all of their senses when trying to ascertain whether the groceries are local or imported. The privileging of local produce over imported goods is ever present regardless of whether or not the groceries actually are better, this follows to lines of argument – that by buying Croatian produce they are supporting Croatian agriculture and that domestic produce is familiar and tastier, although it is not the origin of the goods but the method of its production that counts. They rather chose to buy local goods simply because it is "our" , Croatian, local produce, and not some foreign, unfamiliar and alien foodstuff which is therefore deemed of lesser quality.
