A young Iraqi journalist sets out to write about Linda Abdul Aziz, who escaped to Israel in the early 70's and whose father, a prominent lawyer, had been kidnapped in Baghdad. The continuous dialog between the two, slowly uncovers the tragic end of her father, as well as that of a whole Jewish community that thrived in Iraq for over 2000 year.

Orthodox teacher and wigmaker, Ruchama and Tikva, embark on a journey to fulfill their dream of making movies within the closed society in which they live. Ruchama is writing and producing her first film while Tikva prepares for her first acting role. Like other orthodox women who in recent years have started making films for strictly female audiences, they feel a strong need to express themselves despite strict rabbinical censorship. The Dreamers delicately sketches the portrait of women trying to break new ground as artists in a patriarchal world. Will they find freedom in their art.

Nechama (The meaning of the name Nechama in Hebrew is consolation) is a 77 year old woman who gets up in the morning with a premonition that she will die by the end of the day. The story follows her unstable consciousness through fear, emptiness, hope and neediness until she realizes that her family are able to accept that it might be the last day of her life.

When photographer Eran Barak moves into an apartment in Haifa, he spends his days observing the neighbourhood: three high-rise residential buildings under construction, forever changing the neighbourhood; a photograph of two eternally smiling teenagers killed in a car accident, taped to a small monument; an aging Nazi hunter looking for recognition. As he absorbs it all, these seemingly unrelated elements enter his apartment in the form of photographs that line his walls. Reminiscent of the work of Chris Marker, Barak’s Hunting Time is a poetic and moving meditation on memories and remembrance, history and documentation, reality and imagination.

Fresh off a mandatory military tour, a group of Israeli combat soldiers participates in a series of army-sponsored courses in order to graduate from high school. Part of the curriculum is a civic studies course that asks the soldiers to contemplate issues of human rights and democracy as they pertain to Israel as a state, a nation and a country. The students engage in heated debate as the teacher repeatedly challenges them on their views and opinions, opinions formed largely from their recent and often harrowing personal experiences in the military. It’s a fascinating process, one that puts into sharp perspective some of the challenges facing modern-day Israel, a country full of violence and contradictions.
