Contest Searchlight

Contest Searchlight 2002

1

Contest Searchlight was a four-episode fictional comedy television series that aired in 2002 on the Comedy Central network. It was a documentary-style parody or mockumentary of the HBO network's non-fictional series Project Greenlight. Contest Searchlight starred Denis Leary and Lenny Clarke, playing slightly fictionalized versions of themselves, as TV producers holding a nationwide contest to select a new television series to produce for the Comedy Central network. When none of the proposed submissions prove acceptable, Leary and Clarke end up combining several of the finalist's proposals to produce a new, semi-improvised ensemble sitcom entitled "Jesus and the Gang." The new show ostensibly stars New York theatre and television actor Peter Gallagher, but when Gallagher is hit by a car during the filming of a network promotion, the lead role is shifted to comedian Patrice O'Neal. During rehearsals for the premiere episode, the actors, crew and producers all start fighting each other, and "Jesus and the Gang" is permanently shelved. As noted above, Contest Searchlight was shown in a pseudo-documentary style, and there was no laugh track or other obvious sign that this was, in fact, a fictional series. Following Peter Gallagher's exit from the show, both he and Comedy Central received a number of panicked calls from viewers who believed that Gallagher really had been hit by a car.

Night After Night with Allan Havey

Night After Night with Allan Havey 1970

1

Night After Night with Allan Havey was an unorthodox late night talk show which aired on The Comedy Channel from 1989 to 1992. The show featured the stream of consciousness of host Allan Havey, and other departures from the standard late-night talk show format. Havey's sidekick was Nick Bakay, who moved on to play the sidekick on Dennis Miller's late night talk show. Another curious feature was the "Audience of One," which was literally a single person sitting off-camera, ostensibly serving the same kind of feedback purposes as a normal talk show's studio audience. However, in one episode, "Audience of One" members were brought back for one episode that featured a full studio audience. The show did feature the usual interviews with celebrities who were doing the talk show circuit, but they were done in a more low-key, one-on-one manner, which was uncommon at that time.

The Graham Norton Effect is a talk show hosted by the Irish comedian Graham Norton. The show aired on Comedy Central from June 24, 2004 to September 16, 2004. The Graham Norton Effect can be considered a spin-off to two previous shows hosted by Norton, including So Graham Norton and V Graham Norton. During the last part of Graham's Channel 4 contract, Graham decided to film a new show, NY Graham Norton, in New York. The Graham Norton Effect was filmed for Comedy Central later in the year. Since this show was specifically taped for an American audience, some of the games played in the show were previously played on NY Graham Norton or V Graham Norton. Also, some of the guests, who were only on NY Graham Norton a couple of months previous, appear again on The Graham Norton Effect.
