Taking this as a starting point, Lotte Thiel presents the GDR as a land of books whose capital is Leipzig. Figures and images from the 1971 International Book Art Exhibition underscore the significance accorded to books as a tool for shaping the “socialist personality”.

The tradition of this fair is recalled, from its predecessor BUGRA 1914 to the first IBA in 1927 and the subsequent events that took place every five to six years starting in 1959. The story of life and everyday existence in the squatters collective ‘Jægergården’ located at Jægersborggade 3 in Nørrebro in the winter of 1970-71, where fifty young people occupied a property that had been vacant for two years. The director interviews neighbors, people on the street, and residents of the collective. After three months of occupation, they were evicted by the police.

At first, the young people made fun of the "overly proper" tourist, but in the end, he turned out to be the most experienced.
In the film, the spirit of the old Guatavita, which also inhabits the new one, is materialized in the form of a peasant woman who sees how the old city is sinking under the waters, only to resurface through a ballet in traditional costumes that moves through the spaces of the new city.
