A história é situada três anos após uma praga zombie atacar a população do país. Um grupo formado por pessoas de diferentes origens tem a missão de transportar de Nova Iorque para a Califórnia sobreviventes da praga. O sangue deles poderá ajudar os cientistas a desenvolver uma vacina. No entanto, ele também pode revelar algo ainda pior.
