Povestea din Hobbitul: Dezolarea lui Smaug continuă aventurile lui Bilbo Baggins pe parcursul călătoriei alături de vrăjitorul Gandalf și cei 13 pitici, conduși de Thorin Oakenshield, în misiunea lor de a pune din nou stăpânire pe Regatul Pierdut, Erebor. Bilbo și ai săi companioni trebuie să înfrunte multe pericole, să parcurgă teritorii ostile și să țină piept, în final, înfricoșătorului și vicleanului dragon Smaug, interpretat, prin intermediul motion-capture, de Benedict Cumberbatch.

Jenny si Steve, tinerii indragostiti, pleaca cu masina intr-un weekend romantic si poposesc in padure, langa un lac. Aici isi instaleaza cortul, fac plaja si se scalda in lac. Linistea este tulburata de aparitia unei masini din care rasuna muzica, ocupata de un grup de tinerii, care vorbesc vulgar si se joaca cu un caine, la care Steve intervine. Grupul care le tulbura linistea ii fura cheile masini lui Steve si de aici incepe recuperarea masini , omorarea cainelui, razbunarea tinerilor pentru ca le-au omarat patrupedul, o cursa nebuna dupa ajutor, pe care Jenny, spera sa-l gaseasca intr-o casa ce se dovedeste a fi celui mai rau dintre tineri. Jenny si Steve ignora avertismentele, nu sunt precauti si de aici ei trec prin clipe dureroase si terifiante.

În noaptea în care ajung într-o retrasă cabană din Collingwood, Mari și prietena ei sunt violate de un evadat și de banda lui de infractori. Când părinții lui Mari află ce s-a întâmplat, răzbunarea pe cei care le-au violat și ucis fiica devine mai importantă decât orice. Iar destinul le îndeplinește dorința: violatorii se adăpostesc într-o casă a familiei lui Mari. Ei vor ajunge curând să regrete din tot sufletul că au intrat în "ultima casă pe stânga".

O femeie vizitată de fantoma unei fete frumoase crede inițial că vecina ei a fost ucisă, dar, în cele din urmă, își dă seama că propriul ei soț, un profesor universitar, a avut o aventură cu o studentă și apoi a ucis-o ca să nu dezvăluie idila.

In acest film brutal si provocator din genul „intruziune in casa” — gen cu radacini in unele dintre creatiile lui D.W. Griffith si care astazi este reprezentat de pelicule precum “Portocala mecanica” (1971), “Amenintarea” (1971) si “Panic Room” (2002) -, Michael Haneke isi impinge spectatorii pana la limita, fortandu-i sa priveasca in fata lipsa de logica a violentei nemotivate si propria lor fascinatie fata de imaginile ei cinematografice.
