Bazat pe evenimente reale, thrillerul dramatic Argo prezintă o operațiune sub acoperire, pe viață și pe moarte, de salvare a șase americani. Acțiunile au avut loc în timpul atacului iranian soldat cu luare de ostatici, filmul concentrându-se pe rolul mai puțin cunoscut pe care l-au jucat CIA și Hollywood, informații declasificate la mulți ani după eveniment. Ben Affleck (câștigător al premiului Oscar pentru filmele "Orașul" și "Good Will Hunting") regizează și joacă unul dintre rolurile principale din film. Affleck semnează și producția filmului Argo, alături de Grant Heslov (nominalizat la Oscar pentru "Good Night and Good Luck") și George Clooney (câștigătorul Oscarului pentru "Syriana").
