Keď v roku 1941 nacisti vyvraždili ich rodinu a ďalších 4000 židovských obyvateľov, bratia dovtedy známi ako bitkári, buriči a rebeli utiekli do bieloruských lesov. Tam vytvorili partizánsku skupinu zloženú takmer výhradne zo Židov a postavili mestečko zvané Jeruzalem v lesoch - sídlo s nemocnicou, mlynom, pekárňou, kúpeľmi, divadlom a synagógou. Skupina bojovala s Nemcami a zároveň sa odvažovala vracať do židovských get, založených Nemcami, aby z nich oslobodzovala najväčšmi ohrozených väzňov. Keď v roku 1944 vyšli títo hrdinovia z lesov, bolo ich viac než 1200.

Idea of series derives from exploits of freedom fighters in Belgrade during World War II, and all the characters and events are fictitious.
