Malý Vincenzo Cortino (Jason Fuchs), syn sicílskeho poštára pri doručovaní balíka zazrie niečo, čo rozhodne nemal vidieť. Namiesto neho však životom doplatí jeho otec. A tak musí chlapec z dediny ujsť. A kam inam, ako do Ameriky, kde sa časom vypracuje na mocného šéfa mafie (Lloyd Bridges). Jedného dňa musí Vincenzov syn Tony (Jay Mohr) po fatálnej chybe odísť, ale v Las Vegas sa mu darí a stane sa kontrolórom kasín. Nastane čas, aby rodinné žezlo prevzal niektorý z Vincenzových potomkov – výber nie je široký. Buď to bude vojnový hrdina Tony, toho času vo Vegas, alebo nebezpečný psychopat Joey (Billy Burke). A tak mafia vyšle za Tonym „atraktívnu“ ženu, ktorá ho má odpútať od kasín. Zaľúbi sa do nej Tony, alebo sa vráti k úspešnej Diane (Christina Applegateová), ktorá ašpiruje na prezidentku?

It's the story of two slightly crazy guys who are forced to leave their town, where the annual Gooseberry Days celebration is the biggest attraction, and go to London for work. To say, however, that the tour doesn't go according to plan would be a very mild description of what happens next. The protagonists get separated at the very beginning as a result of a gnarled party. The journey that follows is woven with a plethora of marvelous characters. The viewer will find among them: truckers, gypsy camper traders, anarchist squatters, recidivists hiding from the Polish justice system or go-go club employees.

Karl and Kristina Nilsson work on a farm in a cold and desolate area of 19th century rural Sweden. Growing privations, combined with increasing social and religious persecution, motivate the Nilssons and many of their neighbors to strike out for the United States. Following a treacherous ocean crossing and an equally grueling land passage, the emigrants find themselves in seemingly idyllic Minnesota.
