Píše sa rok 1964. Charizmatický duchovný Flynn sa snaží uvoľniť prísne pravidlá cirkevnej školy, na ktorú železnou rukou dohliada sestra Aloysius, prísna riaditeľka. Komunitou otriasajú násilné politické zmeny, do školy je prijatý prvý černošský študent. Keď sa však mladá a nevinná sestra James podelí so sestrou Aloysius o svoje obavy, že otec Flynn venuje Donaldovi príliš veľa osobnej pozornosti, riaditeľka sa pustí do boja, ktorý by mal vyústiť do odhalenia pravdy.

Londýnsky expert v odbore investícií Max Skinner sa po smrti svojho strýka Henryho vracia na vinicu do Francúzska, kde prežil najkrajšiu časť detstva. Hoci ambiciózny workoholik chce hodiť minulosť za hlavu a vinicu čo najskôr predať, v okamihu príchodu do čarokrásnej oblasti na juhu Francúzska sa začne odvíjať celkom nová a opojná kapitola jeho života, počas ktorej v sebe nájde to, čo mu už od detstva chýba. A tak sa Max postupne mení na iného človeka, objaví lásku v podobe pôvabnej majiteľky miestnej kaviarne Fanny Chenalovej a zistí, že z nádherného prostredia viníc sa mu už vôbec nechce vrátiť do uponáhľaného sveta biznisu.

Obidvaja sa s iróniou strmhlavo vrhajú do skúmania premien lásky a priateľstva, osamelosti a snov aj odvekej vojny medzi Pinotom a Cabernetom. Tí dvaja sú veľmi nesúrodá dvojica...

Našťastie, je tu babička Ella, ktorá môže vnučky dať dokopy.

Na ceste k mestečku sa objaví komediantský voz. Večer sa Důra, major, abbé a Důrova manželka Kateřina (Míla Myslíková) zúčastnia povrazolezeckej produkcie kúzelníka Arnoštka (Jiří Menzel). Všetkých troch postarších mužov očarí krásna Arnoštkova spoločníčka Anna (Jana Drchalová), pani Kateřine sa zapáči Arnoštek.

Príbeh novicky Viridian, ktorá pred zložením rehoľného sľubu navštívi svojho strýka s nevinným prianím rozlúčiť sa so svojím poručníkom, netušiac, že všetko sa vyvinie úplne inak, je v podaní klasika španielskej kinematografie Luise Bunuel krutú satirou na náboženské pokrytectvo. V roku 1961 bola Viridian ocenená Zlatou palmou v Cannes, v mnohých krajinách sa však premietali iba katolíckou cirkvou Cenzurované verzie a doma v ortodoxnom Španielsku bolo jeho premietanie zakázané úplne. Bunuel niesol svoju kliatbu veľmi ťažko a svoj ďalší film Anjel skazy nakrútil v Mexiku. Satirický-surrealistická obraznosť Viridian, jedného z hlavných diel Luisa Bunuel, však dodnes zaraďuje toto filmové dielo ku špičkám svetovej kinematografie.
