Tja je namenjen tudi paralizirani vojak Jake, ki s pomočjo prenosa misli dobi novo - nezemljansko telo. V neznani pokrajini ga skoraj doleti smrt, a ga še pravočasno reši Pandorina staroselka Neytiri. Jake se zbliža s ponosno bojevnico in njenim plemenom ter ob tem spoznava pravo lepoto neukročene Pandorine narave. Toda kmalu se znajde ujet sredi epskega boja, kjer se mora odločiti med tem, kar mu veleva um, in kar mu narekuje srce.

Film je umeščen deset let po dogodkih iz prvega dela in se začne z zgodbo o družini Sully. Odkar se je odločil trajno prenesti človeško zavest v telo Avatarja in postati novi vodja naroda Na’vi, Jake Sully s svojo družino živi na Pandori. Z Neytiri sta ustvarila družino in dobila otroke. Kolonizacijske sile se vrnejo na Pandoro, da bi oživile prvotno iskanje, zaradi česar Jake in Neytiri pobegneta iz svojega doma in raziskujeta doslej še neznane dele Pandore, da bi srečala ljudstvo Metkayine, klan domorodcev, ki živijo obdani z morjem.

2. del raziskuje Paulovo mistično potovanje, po tem, ko se je pridružil Chani in domorodnim Fremenom na svoji bojni poti maščevanja proti zarotnikom, ki so uničili njegovo družino. Zvedavi malček se na žalost počuti zelo osamljeno, toda nekega dne na Zemljo prispe skrivnostna robotka, ki WALL-E-ja popelje na fantastično avanturo.

Zgodba se dogaja nekaj generacij po Cezarjevi vladavini. V tem svetu so opice prevladujoča živeča vrsta na Zemlji in živijo v harmoniji, človeška rasa pa je močno okrnjena in živi v senci opic. Medtem ko novi tiranski vodja opic gradi svoj imperij, se ena izmed mlajših opic poda na mučno potovanje, zaradi katerega podvomi v vse, kar je vedel o preteklosti ter mora sprejeti odločitve, ki bodo določile prihodnost tako opic kot ljudi.

George Taylor poveljuje vesoljski ladji, v kateri so še trije astronavti. Let traja šest mesecev s svetlobno hitrostjo, to predstavlja sedemsto zemeljskih let . Strmoglavi na neznani planet.
