Film, posnet po resničnih dogodkih osvajanja ameriške divjine, prikazuje skupino trdoživih lovcev pod vodstvom izkušenega Hugha, ki se znajdejo na begu pred divjim indijanskim plemenom. Na poti preko neizprosne divjine Hugha napade in težko poškoduje medvedka, nato pa doživi še izdajstvo preračunljivega pomočnika Johna, ki umori njegovega sina, Hugha pa pusti umreti v mrazu. Toda odločni gorjan se zoperstavi smrtonosni naravi in okrutnim zasledovalcem ter se sam odpravi do postojanke, pri življenju pa ga ohranjata neomajno kljubovanje smrti in goreča želja po maščevanju.

V filmu se podamo med najvišje alpske vrhove in v odmaknjene dinarske gozdove, potujemo preko panonskih ravnic, se spustimo v podzemne jame kraškega sveta in pod gladino Jadranskega morja. Pri vsaki pokrajini spoznamo zanje značilen živalski in tudi rastlinski svet. Odkrivamo tudi skrivno življenje nekaterih živalskih vrst, ki živijo v neposredni bližini ljudi, pogosto celo v urbanem okolju, a nam tako rekoč nikoli ne pridejo pred oči. Priča smo tudi posamičnim interakcijam med ljudmi in živalmi. Skozi 83-minutni film se odstirajo osupljive podrobnosti iz živalskega sveta, združene v privlačne in nevsiljivo poučne zgodbe, ki jih odlikujejo zanimivi posnetki. Predstavljenih je več kot 50 živalskih vrst, ki jih spremljamo v obdobju enega leta in so prikazane v različnih vlogah, kot jim jih narekuje življenjski cikel – prehranjevanje oz. lov, dvorjenje, spopad za samice, paritev, skrb za mladiče. Poseben pečat dajejo filmu posnetki redko videnih prizorov.

Jungle Book Shōnen Mowgli is an anime adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's original collection of stories, The Jungle Book. It aired in 1989, and consists of a total of 52 episodes. The series, a compromise between the original Mowgli stories and the Walt Disney version, received international acclaim and was aired in different countries around the world.
