Vår tid på jorden närmar sig sitt slut, och ett team av upptäcksresenärer tar sig an historiens viktigaste uppdrag.

I en postapokalyptisk framtid där en händelse som kallas ”The Quiet Rapture” fick alla kända stjärnor och beboeliga planeter i universum att försvinna, skickas en fånge ut för att söka efter ett blodhav som upptäckts på en ödslig måne, med hjälp av en liten ubåt med smeknamnet ”Iron Lung”.
