I ett arbetarkvarter i Paris på 60-talet inleds den osannolika vänskapen mellan Ibrahim, en äldre muslimsk herre och Momo, en liten judisk pojke. Från sin butik ser och hör Ibrahim allt som händer invånarna i kvarteret och när Momo blir övergiven av sin pappa tar han sig an pojken. De två köper en bil och ger sig ut på en resa för att besöka Ibrahims hemby i Turkiet.
