เป็นหนังย้อนยุคในช่วงปี 1921 นางเอกของเรื่อง Florence Cathcart เป็นผู้หญิงที่เชื่อในวิทยาศาสตร์ เชื่อมั่นในสิ่งที่พิสูจน์ได้ ช่างสังเกต และเธอมักจะทำงานร่วมกับตำรวจในการเปิดโปงอาชญากร หรือนักต้มตุ๋นต่างๆในสังคม วันนึงฟลอเรนซ์ได้รับคำเชิญให้ไปพิสูจน์เหตุการณ์ผีหลอกในโรงเรียนประจำชายล้วนแห่งนึงใน Rookford ที่มีประวัติว่าเคยมีการฆาตกรรมเกิดขึ้น ฟลอเลนซ์ตอบรับคำชวนทันที เพราะเธอเชื่อว่าผีเป็นสิ่งที่สามารถอธิบายในทางวิทยาศาสตร์ได้ เป็นโชคดีหรือโชคร้ายของเธอก็ไม่รู้ ในช่วงที่เธอไปถึงโรงเรียน ตรงกับช่วงพักร้อนของโรงเรียนพอดี ทำให้โรงเรียนไม่มีคนอยู่เลย นอกจากนักเรียน และครูบางคน ภายใต้โรงเรียนที่กว้างใหญ่ สถาปัตยกรรมสวนงามจนน่าขนลุก ฟลอเลนซ์เริ่มตระหนักถึงการมีอยู่ของสิ่งที่เรียกว่า
