เมื่อโลกเข้าสู่ห้วงสุดท้ายในยุคเรา ทีมนักสำรวจต้องรับภารกิจที่สำคัญสุดในประวัติศาสตร์มนุษยชาติ โดยการเดินทางสู่กาแล็คซี่อันไกลโพ้น เพื่อค้นหาความเป็นไปได้ว่าในอนาคตมนุษยชาติอยู่ท่ามกลางดวงดาวได้หรือเปล่า
