ในตอนเช้า ต๋อง (วีรภักดิ์ แก่นสุวรรณ) และพวกลูกๆ ได้ไปโรงเรียน ต๋องเป็นเด็กโรคดาวน์ซินโดรมจะเป็นเด็กพิเศษและความมีสุขได้ตลอด และส่วน ลูกแก้ว (นวรัตน์ เตชะรัตนประเสริฐ) เด็กผู้หญิงที่ชอบเล่นกับต๋องตลอดเวลา ต๋องอยู่ที่บ้านกลางชนบทหลังเขาสก และ ลูกแก้วอยู่ที่ร้านขายรองเท้าในเมือง ทั้งคู่ได้เป็นเพื่อนสนิทเรียนห้องเดียวกัน พ่อของต๋องชื่อสำรวย (โหน่ง ชะชะช่า) ทำงานอยู่ที่สถานีขนส่ง แอ๋ว (อลิสา อินทุสมิต) เป็นภรรยาของสำรวยและเป็นแม่ของต๋อง คุณปรีชา (ทัช ณ ตะกั่วทุ่ง) เป็นพ่อของลูกแก้วที่นิสัยดุสั่งสอนอบรมให้แก่ ลูกแก้วเสมอ เขาไม่ชอบครอบครัวที่มีนิสัยปัญญาอ่อน เขาทำงานที่สถานีขนเช่นเดียวกัน ที่โรงเรียน เบิ้มเป็นคนที่ใจดำชอบมาแกล้งต๋องอยู่เรื่อยๆ ลูกแก้วได้ช่วยเหลือต๋องเป็นอย่างดี
ในปี 1979 รูดี้ (อลัน คัมมิ่ง) เป็นนักดนตรีที่กำลังตกอับและเป็น เกย์ ที่ต้องคบหาแบบหลบ ๆ ซ่อน ๆ กับ พอล (การ์เร็ต ดิลลาฮันต์) ทนายความซึ่งเป็นแฟนหนุ่มของเขา เนื่องจากฝ่ายหลังยังไม่สามารถเปิดเผยรสนิยมทางเพศได้ เนื่องด้วยเงื่อนไขทางวิชาชีพ วันหนึ่ง รูดี้ พบว่า เพื่อนบ้านซึ่งเช่าห้องอยู่ติดกับเขาโดนจับเข้าคุก และปล่อยให้ มาร์โค (ไอแซค ลีย์วา) ลูกชายวัย 14 ซึ่งเป็นดาวน์ซินโดรมใช้ชีวิตอยู่เพียงลำพัง ด้วยความสงสาร รูดี้ จึงรับเด็กชายคนดังกล่าวมาอยู่ด้วย ไม่นานเมื่อสังคมสงเคราะห์ทราบเรื่อง จึงเข้ามารับตัวมาร์โคไปอยู่สถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กพิการ แต่ รูดี้ ก็สู้สุดใจขาดดิ้น เพื่อให้สิทธิการเลี้ยงดูนั้นตกเป็นของตัวเอง โดยขอร้องแกมบังคับ พอล ให้ช่วยเหลือ ในยุคที่ เกย์ ยังคงเป็น สิ่งแปลกปลอม ของสังคม การกระโดดข้ามกำแพงอุปสรรค เพื่อร้องขอสิทธิในการเป็น พ่อแม่ ดูเป็นสิ่งที่ท้าทายและสั่นคลอนบรรทัดฐานของสังคมในยุคนั้นพอสมควร
