The events in the movie begin just before classes start, when one of the students sets off a stink bomb in the school restroom. Because of the incident, the school has to be evacuated and classes are dismissed early. The principal and the school counselor must then identify the real culprit among five suspects. Was it just a childish prank, or a deliberate act?

A human is a split between many things… but the worst is the split carried inside… that between the mind and the body… How can we feel others, if the only universe that an individual truly lives in and feels is his or her own universe? In 1880, the young, brave firefighter Ignacij Merhar from Prigorica commanded his company in the Slovenian language during the Ljubljana firemen's parade. With this, he upset the authorities at the time, which is why he was temporarily detained. Due to public pressure, the lawsuit was dropped and he was released. His action coincided with the national revival at the time, when Slovenians actively advocated the use of their native language both in public and in public institutions.

The valley of tears is a synonym for the prison in Dob, Slovenia. The film takes us to the event organised as part of the Engage and Activate project (ViA), with a performance by the band Autodafé, interweaving it with personal accounts of three inmates who are part of the project. The first one was convicted of murder, the second one of sexual assault and incest, and the third one of fraud/financial crime. In a symbolic way, songs of the sea complete the idea of the film which perceives the prison as an isolated island detached from everyday life and society.
