On March 9, 2009, CNN announced that Hughley would be ending the show due to a desire to work in Los Angeles and be closer to his family. He plans to continue his work with CNN as a Los Angeles-based contributor for the network. On the show's finale, Hughley did a report about legalizing marijuana. He said that he had a back problem and took the show into his doctor's office to get his prescription refilled, but CNN censored some of the interview. D. L. Crossfire is a current events debate television program that airs on CNN. Its format is designed to present and challenge the opinions of a politically liberal pundit and a conservative pundit. The show initially ran from 1982 to 2005, when it was canceled. CNN announced on June 26, 2013, that after eight years off the air, a new version of Crossfire would re-launch September 16th, 2013, later moved to September 9. The panelists for the new edition of Crossfire are former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and political commentator S. E. Cupp representing the right and political consultant Stephanie Cutter and advocate Van Jones representing the left.

The show, launched on October 3, 1993, was moderated by Frank Sesno until January 11, 1998, and by Wolf Blitzer from January 18, 1998 to January 11, 2009. The program aired at 11:00 AM ET and thus was the last of the Sunday talk shows to air in most East Coast markets, hence the name "Late Edition.". On December 8, 2008, CNN announced that the show would end the following month to make way for a new 4 hour news block hosted by John King. The final "Late Edition" with Wolf Blitzer aired on January 11, 2009. The new newsblock, called State of the Union with John King, began airing on January 18, 2009.
