Keşif ekibinin lideri olan Indiana Jones benzeri bir adam bu gezinin planlarını çoktan hazırlamıştır ama helikopteri bir kuş sürüsü tarafından düşürülünce bu planlar bozulur. Planlarının bozulmasının ardından, geziye gizlice dahil olan oğlu Luke’la da ilgilenmek zorundadır. Luke filmin esas anlatıcısıdır. Elindeki birden fazla el kamerasıyla projenin her dakikasını kaydetmektedir. Ekip kısa süre içinde ormanda bir şeylerin yanlış gittiğini fark eder ve insanoğlunun binlerce yıl once nesillerinin tükendiğini düşündüğü sıra dışı yaratıklarla karşılaşır.

1879 yılında Marcelino adındaki bir adam, 35 bin yıldır varlığını korumayı başaran Altamira Mağarasını İspanya'nın Kuzeyinde Santillana del Mar yakınlarında keşfetmeyi başarır.
