İsveçli asil bir aileye mensup olan Julie, önemli bir gecede, ait olduğu sınıfın rutin ve geleneklerinden fazlasıyla sıkılarak hizmetçilerin verdiği partiye konuk olur. Genç kadın burada hizmetçilerden biri olan John'dan etkilenir. John aynı zamanda Julie'nin babasının kahyalığını yapmaktadır ve genç kadının cesur davranışlarından çok hoşlanır.
