A stranger came to Sparky's church. He told Sparky's dad, Mr. Paggert, he needed some boys to help carry provisions up into the mountains on a secret mission. It sounded exciting. The stranger was searching for a legendary lost gold mine and had a map which seemed to indicate exactly where the mine could be found. Sparky and his dad agreed to help the stranger carry equipment and supplies up into the mountains for his search. Nobody found a "lost" gold mine. What did happen makes this zestful animation film delightful viewing for kids. The boys demonstrate their Christian faith in times of need. They also have an opportunity to present the Gospel.

This O. Henry adaptation features Soapy, an affable bum in 19th-century New York City, who starts thinking about going to his "winter home" on Blackwell's Island. To set his plan into motion, all he has to do is break the law.

How far can a group of young people accept the otherness of a marginal person they are trying to welcome among them ? We won't know a lot of things about him. He will depart just as mysteriously as he had come, leaving behind him wall paintings of stunning quality and that sentence painted on a garage door : "Music soothes the savage breast." His brief stay has disrupted that young microcosm. It gave those young people an opportunity to reveal their personality to each other. Some appear as intolerant, others as cowardly and some as braver than the rest. We are tempted to consider this film as a documentary fable. Indeed, it has that eternal quality that is found in all founding narratives, since it raises a question that is as old as humanity : difference.

This educational film shows human reproduction as fertilization, growth and birth of the child with rules of conduct for the expectant mother. In a combination of live-action film, animated graphics and microfilmography/photography, “an everyday, ever-changing miracle” is accompanied until the birth.

Walia joined the newly formed Birmingham Film Workshop in the early 1980s and quickly began work on this compelling portrait of the Handsworth Cultural Centre Organised through the probation service, the Centre provided an important space for Afro-Caribbean communities to meet, make and create.
