A man trying to get in touch with his past is confronted with the realities of his nation's future in this drama. Andreas (Giorgos Dialegmenos) is an elderly man who finds himself caught in a wave of nostalgia about the home where he grew up with his mother. Andreas decides to travel to the Greek island where he and his mother lived in hopes of visiting his boyhood home, but he soon discovers that things have changed a great deal over the years; many familiar landmarks are gone, and no one on the island is terribly interested in helping him find his way. After much searching, Andreas thinks he's found the place where he grew up, only to discover the house is gone, and a group of refugees have set up camp on what used to be the family's property. Efimeri Poli was the first dramatic feature from director Giorgos Zafiris after helming a series of well-respected documentaries.

This experimental film examines the physical and emotional effect of violence as it is seen through the eyes of women around the world, ranging from a Irish mother explaining the use of "knee-capping" by the IRA to an Arabic woman describing how war and terrorism has impacted her country. Each woman who narrates uses her own native tongue, with nine languages represented on the soundtrack. While the film does not feature an original score, the Master Drummers of Burundi appear in one sequence. Wild Blue, Notes for Several Voices was screened as part of the Un Certain Regard program at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival.

Incredible Creatures That Defy Evolution III 2000

The Incredible Creatures That Defy Evolution Series enters the fascinating world of animals to reveal sophisticated and complex designs that shake the traditional foundations of evolutionary theory. This series features Dr. Jobe Martin, who for the past 20 years, has been exploring evolution vs. creation. His findings have been fascinating students around the world as he lectures on these remarkable animal designs that cannot be explained by traditional evolution. Dr. Martin himself was a traditional evolutionist, but his medical and scientific training would go through an evolution, rather a revolution when he began to study animals that challenged the scientific assumptions of his education. This was the beginning of the evolution of a creationist. - What kind of bird can kill a lion with a single kick? - How can some dogs know that a storm is coming before it appears, or can sense when their masters are about to experience a seizure?

In Drum Solo, an unexpected cast of characters performs for the viewer in an amusing, dreamlike manner that draws humor from the banality of everyday life. Loosely related to Surrealism and Pop Art, Porter’s lyrical film reanimates found objects, toys, and figurines that the artist purchased from antique stores and flea markets. The artist manipulates kitsch in ways that call attention to the artifice and ridiculousness of such objects as essentially useless materials.

A mini-revolution. Wrong choices. The divorce of ethereal beauty and mystery so common in experimental films. In Stephanie Barber's films. What begins as devastatingly awkward or "tender" unfolds itself to show a deceptive, strangely rigid literary formalism commented upon by the content. The two (form and content) dance around, moving towards and away from each other in the tricky, clear dialogue. Hyper-reflexivity, art and love (and the role faith plays in each of these). The filmmaker writes, "I, myself, feel safest around purposefulness, can read more clearly an artist's work when I trust that choices have been weighed, bear meaning. This film requires a great deal of faith because it is strange and labile. Its device-ness is so apparent as to have left it naked. And then so naked as to be, perhaps, closed again."
