Collegian Angelica "Trix" Varden, willful daughter of William Varden, after a midnight spread of lobster and ice cream, has a dream about an adventure on her father's ranch involving her horse Beverly, one Jack Norton, and Buck Barlow's gang of rustlers. She is expelled from school and returns home to find a handsome new foreman, who is none other than Jack Norton. Trix's curiosity is aroused by her dream, and she finds evidence of rustlers. Barlow shows up, and she locks herself in a cabin and sends Jack's horse, Star, for help. Jack finally defeats Barlow in a fight, and the two horses "realize" that they now have both a master and a mistress.

With an international chess tournament in progress, a young man becomes completely obsessed with the game. His fiancée has no interest in it, and becomes frustrated and depressed by his neglect of her, but wherever she goes she finds that she cannot escape chess. On the brink of giving up, she meets the world champion, Capablanca himself, with interesting results.

A serious young man and his emotional wife become acquainted with a frivolous young man and his serious minded wife, and it is not long before like attracts like, to the discomfiture of all. The four agree to an exchange of wives during a trip into the mountains, with the result that each is soon glad to go back to the original marital arrangement.

"Bilge" Smith (Richard Barthelmess), a tough sailor, meets Connie Martin (Dorothy Mackaill), a seamstress in a small harbor who has never had a boyfriend. Connie is instantly smitten. She invites Smith to dinner, where he dances with her and gives her a kiss. Connie has a hard time letting him go, and makes him promise that he will come back.

Sheriff Pat Halahan comes into an inheritance and travels to San Francisco to collect. Faith O’Day, a cat burglar armed with pistol and flashlight breaks into his hotel room and demands that Halahan cough up his dough. Halahan sees her threat and raises her a one-dollar bet that he can return a brooch she stole earlier the same evening before its loss is discovered. Pulling off his boots to slip on his own “soft shoes,” Halahan sets off to do a little second-story work, not realizing the trouble he’s in for.

In a small town, the dancer Inge Maria Torselli is very popular with the theater audience. Her father is a ballet master and trained her. Lieutenant Count von Arenheim falls in love with her. But his childhood friend Harald von Bodenstein is also at her feet. The lieutenant asks the father for his daughter's hand in marriage and in order to be able to get married, he applies for his release from the military. His superiors and his mother have certain prejudices against the dancer for whom the lieutenant wants to sacrifice his career. Two typists, one attractive, the other efficient, fall in love with the son of one of the firm's partners. The young man makes overtures to the attractive girl but finally finds a match in the plainer one, while the other girl realises the worth of the prim and correct head clerk.

At a monastery shelter in one of Russia's western towns, orphan Yulka gives birth to a son from the shepherd Jerome. Matron of the shelter Pavlikha as directed by the father kills the newborn baby and disposes of the corpse in the Jewish Quarter. The Black Hundreds are spreading the rumor that the murder was committed by the Jews for ritual purposes. Mayhem arises which is supported by the authorities of the city. The church refuses to shelter Jews fleeing from the violent thugs.

Finlayson plays an intrepid army cameraman on the battlefield in the world war, and Rowe plays his hapless assistant. Cranking away in no man's land, they take foolish chances and must dodge flying shells, falling down and losing their film repeatedly.

Clergyman Peter leaves the pulpit to enter World War I to be near Julie, the woman he loves. They are separated, but after the war she nurses him through a long illness. He will not marry her because it would hinder the humanitarian work that he plans. She keeps her faith in him, which prompts him to return to her and marry her. A lost film.

He proposes marriage but Mimi wants money and security which he cannot provide so she becomes engaged to a wealthy man whom she does not love. When Jerry’s uncle dies leaving him a ranch and what is said to be a castle Mimi changes her tune and the pair elope. Disillusionment comes though when they see the shack that was called a castle, but Mimi accepts the situation until the rejected wealthy man appears on the scene. Conflicts arise until an accident befalls Jerry and Mimi realizes her true feelings.

Sir James Gilbert, a British peer, wagers that he can win the love of a particular young American woman for whom he has his heart set. Disguised as a chauffeur, James shows his love to Mary Burgess, niece of his wealthy employer, John Burgess. To obtain the consent of Mary's aunt, the couple involves her in a harmless trick. A villain threatens blackmail and attempts to pass himself off as the Sir James Gilbert. After a variety of adventures, the blackmailer's schemes are defeated. The young woman's hitherto hostile relatives are surprised and pleased when, instead of a chauffeur, Mary becomes the bride of Sir Gilbert.
