Pienessä Arkansas kaupungissa kaikki tuntevat toisensa. Annie Wilson asuu siellä kolmen poikansa kanssa ja elättää perheensä ennustamalla ja lukemalla korteista. Rikkaan miehen tytär katoaa ja poliisi joutuu turvautumaan Annien apuun, koska tutkimukset eivät etene. Ruumis löytyy lopulta Annien painajaismaisten unien perusteella.
