"This film", says the director Matondo Kamanka, "can be seen from both the political and socio-psychological perspective. Politically, because the film is about the liberation war. Socio-psychologically, because the war divided the families: close relatives live on different sides of the border and know nothing about each other. We interviewed those who lead the Resistance, ordinary partisans, and volunteers. The interviews are rarely shown on screen, but we hear them: these conversations comment on what viewers see in the frame. Together with the cameraman, I spent a long time in the liberated areas, we brought a lot of film, and the film, in essence, was born at the editing table. The world did not know about the heroic struggle of the people of Angola, full of hardships. That is why we made this film, so that the world would know the truth about Angola."

Vertical Room Pan was made in Haxton's San Diego studio in 1971. A device was made that allowed the camera to rotate around a horizontal axis. The resulting film is a 360 degree rotation of the studio in a vertical direction. This is somewhat analogous to the way the film passes through the camera. The film was first shown in the 5th Avenue space in downtown San Diego. The installation forced the audience to view the film over a six foot wall. The film was projected near the ceiling on a wall at the rear of the space The film is about the way the camera describes space and the control of the way the viewer is oriented to the film projection.
